Globally all sites use data connections provided and managed by our global partners to connect to Gutersloh, Germany which is the corporate data
center, by using a combination of MPLS, direct and VPN connections. By extension this ensures all Bertelsmann, as well as
arvato services sites can securely route to each other if needed, although access by different divisions is by default, logically separated by firewalls for additional security.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
arvato locations are connected via T1 leased lines or MPLS to the
backbone in our corporate data center. The bandwidth has been accounted for depending upon the locational requirement and for redundancy reasons, different routings have been selected to the Carrier/Provider. The star shaped cross-linking of the locations ensures an evenly high information flow-rate between the locations and to the corporate data center.
Arvato chooses the appropriate ISP provider in the country and the global partner for WAN network connectivity. They are responsible for the installation, monitoring and maintenance of the routings including hardware at the Locations, with the router as point of termination and/or handover point.
Local Area Networks (LAN)
First stations behind the point of handover of the global partner are two core Ethernet switches. Since these devices are also central components, their hardware is laid out likewise redundant and secures an extremely high service level within location cross-linking. "Fast Ethernet" is the network topology at all locations and offers a range of 100 Mbit, and/or 1 Gbit for high-speed applications. The building wiring is based on standardized
Cat 5 cables and can be used both for any kind by Telephony and for PC cross-linking.
The entire network and its attached central hardware and servers are supervised with a centralized
management tool. In the event of an error the support personnel on duty are informed through automatic messages (Email, SMS,
etc.) in order to address the problem locally as fast as possible.
